Announcements / Sessions and Timeout Errors
« on: September 15, 2016, 11:33:26 AM »
Hey everybody,
Several people have emailed me saying they're having problems here on the message board.  The most common problem has been a "session timed out" error upon immediately posting.  Also, some people have said they're having problems logging in/out.

Last week, I noticed a problem with the sessions table.  It was spitting out an error message.  I thought I had it fixed, but it appears that my solution caused more problems than it solved.  Since then, I've done several things to try and fix these new problems.  I've completely changed the way the forum handles sessions, and I've renamed the forum's cookies.

I can't be sure that the problems are 100% gone, but I'm seeing that some things are getting better.  So at least it's some progress.  I encourage everyone to log out of the forum, clear your cookies, and log back in.  I need the users to help me keep an eye on these issues.  If any of you continue to have problems logging in, posting, replying, or sending PMs, please let me know.  Email me at andrew@p-rphotos.com and tell me what's going on.

Announcements / Important To New Members Trying To Register
« on: March 17, 2015, 10:55:48 AM »
Over the past couple of weeks, we've been seeing a huge spike in the number of spammers registering on the board.  It's something that has always happened, but now I'm seeing about 200–300 per day.  This is why our board requires admin approval for new members registering.  In the past, I would crawl through the list and approve the legitimate users and delete all the spam.  Unfortunately, this has become too time consuming.  So here's the deal:

If you're trying to register on the board or you have a friend that is trying to register and they just can't seem to be able to get approved, please have them contact us.  PM's here are okay, but I prefer email or phone.  My email is andrew@p-rphotos.com, and the number here at the office is 803-329-7557.  I'm in the office Mon–Thurs 8am – 5pm.  In most cases, it will only take two minutes and I'll have you fixed up.  Just give me a shout.  Thanks.

Announcements / Database Error Fixed
« on: May 01, 2014, 04:02:10 PM »
If anyone has been having trouble posting or sending pm's for the past couple of days, you can blame me.  I made an update to the board yesterday morning, and I made a mistake in the coding.  This caused a database error and effectively put a halt to any action that requires user verification (posting, pm's, user registration, etc).  I just caught the mistake and everything is back to normal now.

Announcements / PM Notification Emails
« on: April 08, 2014, 11:55:42 AM »
Hey everybody,
Just a quick note.  When you receive a PM, I'm sure most of you have seen the notification emails.  You'll receive an email informing you that you have a new PM waiting on you.

Please do not reply to the notification email.

The recipient email address does not actually exist, no one will receive it, and your response will float out into oblivion never to be seen again.

To reply to a PM, you must login to the message board and reply in your inbox

Hey everybody.  If you haven't noticed, things look a lot different around here now :P

Yesterday morning, our server administrator installed an update to MySQL and PHP.  This caused conflicts with our old message board.  To put it bluntly, the thing just broke and there was no hope in recovering it.  Granted, the software we were using on the old board was about 9 years old.  It was time for an upgrade.

Unfortunately, everyone visiting the message board will have to register again.  We were unable to save our old database.  Same rules apply as before.  All new members must have a username, email address, or signature that reflects his/her real name.

I'll be working on this for the next couple of days; making tweaks here and there and re-skinning the appearance of it.  We're working to get everything back in order, and everything should be back to normal soon.  Please hang in there with us.  Thank you.
